The United States is currently being bombarded by a campaign of digital shock and awe due to the ways in which ISIS is aggressively using social media to reach individuals throughout the world and, in some instances, spark attacks. As we’ve come to realize, their reach is widespread and their messages have proven to be very effective.
According to a statement made yesterday by FBI Director James Comey, the ISIS strategy of radicalizing and recruiting via social media is “the biggest threat, the most urgent threat” that the Bureau currently faces. And we couldn’t agree more.
For nearly five years our company has researched social media threats of all types, and our findings have led to a variety of breakthroughs in the monitoring of social channels to identify potentially threatening material, and also counter-messaging strategies to effectively combat terrorist activity on social networks before radicalization occurs.
We have spent a considerable amount of time analyzing the roadmap to radicalization to better understand where digital roadblocks can be erected to hinder the process. Additionally, through our research we have identified counter-messaging downfalls of the past so the U.S. will be more prepared in the future.
